PVD Coating Applications

We coat parts, forming and machining tools with high-performance PVD and DLC coatings. Our main focus is coating components and finished products for demanding applications. At the same time, we can optimize almost any standard coating for improved performance. We work with many types of coatings, and below we present the most in-demand ones. Feel free to contact us with your specific request.

PVD coatings are widely used across various industries. In tooling and cutting tools, they extend lifetime and increase wear resistance. In the automotive sector, they improve component resistance to corrosion and wear. In electronics, they enhance conductivity and protect against corrosion, while in medicine they provide biocompatible surfaces for implants and instruments. PVD coatings are also popular in watches and jewelry, offering attractive finishes and increased scratch resistance. In addition, PVD is more environmentally friendly compared to some traditional processes, making it an ideal choice for a wide range of applications.

DLC

DLC coatings (Diamond-Like Carbon) combine the hardness of diamond with the low friction of graphite. The result is an exceptionally durable and smooth surface, ideal for tools, machine components, and design elements. They typically feature an elegant black, glossy appearance and significantly extend the lifetime of components.

Hard Coatings

We offer a wide range of hard coatings such as AlTiN, CrN, AlTiSiN, TiN, and ZrN, ideal for metal forming and machining applications. These coatings extend tool life, reduce friction, and provide protection against wear and high temperatures.

Decorative Coatings

Gold, rose gold, coyote, black, white, and many other unique shades – all available with our decorative coatings for metal, glass, and plastic. We offer custom and tailor-made colors that combine attractive appearance with high durability and long service life.

Forming tool coatings

Our coatings for molds and dies feature an ultra-smooth surface free from droplets and rough structures, ensuring high efficiency and reliability. Coating forming tools extends their lifetime, reduces production costs, and prevents both abrasive and adhesive wear as well as demolding issues.

Coating of Plastics

AdvaMat s.r.o. offers decorative metallic coatings (gold, silver, bronze) for plastic parts in both small and large series. The process runs at low temperature (<50 °C) and is suitable for materials such as ABS, PP, PE, PA, and PEEK. Maximum part dimensions are 1500 × 1500 × 300 mm. The coating process is environmentally friendly and replaces chemical chrome plating in compliance with REACH.

Machining Tool Coatings

Coatings significantly extend the lifetime of machining tools and ensure greater process stability. They reduce friction, increase resistance to wear and thermal load, and enable higher cutting speeds. We offer a wide range of coatings tailored to specific materials and machining types—from milling and turning to drilling.

ChromIQ

ChromIQ is a safe and fully-fledged alternative to traditional electroplated chromium. It offers excellent protection against corrosion and wear, along with a flawless appearance—a smooth, glossy chrome finish. The coating is applied without the use of toxic substances, making it fully compliant with European REACH legislation.

Glass Mold Coatings

Molds no longer need lubrication—saving costs, time, and the environment. Our Crystal Queen coating is designed for the extreme conditions of glass production. With high thermal stability, oxidation resistance, and low adhesion to glass, it extends mold lifetime, improves product quality, and enables smooth, maintenance-free manufacturing.

Fusion Device and Tokamak Coatings

AdvaMat offers specialized coatings for tokamaks and nuclear fusion devices. We apply layers of tungsten, molybdenum, chromium, and zirconium that withstand extreme temperatures and corrosive environments. Coatings up to 20 microns thick increase the lifetime and efficiency of key components, while the technology also contributes to greater overall system safety.

MoSC coatings

Benefits:

  • Ultra-low coefficient of friction: Thanks to the MoS₂ layer, these coatings achieve a friction coefficient as low as 0.04, significantly reducing energy losses and increasing the efficiency of mechanical systems.
  • Compatibility with various lubricants: MoSC coatings can be effectively combined with different types of lubricants, further reducing friction and wear.
  • Performance in vacuum and protective atmospheres: Unlike some other sliding coatings, MoSC coatings work effectively in vacuum and nitrogen atmospheres, making them suitable for specialized applications.
  • Environmental friendliness: The deposition process of MoSC coatings is environmentally friendly, in line with current industrial manufacturing trends.
  • Stability in diverse environments: MoSC coatings demonstrate excellent thermal and chemical stability, making them suitable for demanding conditions, including high temperatures and aggressive chemical environments.

DLC Coatings: Hard as Diamond, Smooth as Graphite

DLC (Diamond-Like Carbon): These coatings combine the properties of diamond—such as hardness and durability—with the properties of graphite, which offers low friction and self-lubrication. By merging graphite and diamond, we create a structure that is both strong and low-friction. The DLC family includes a variety of coatings. With different compositions (pure carbon, carbon with acetylene, or metal-doped), DLC coatings can be precisely tailored to specific needs—from aesthetic applications to highly technical ones.

Tribological Coatings: DLC, WS₂, WSC/WSN

Under pressure, diamond bonds in the frictional contact transform into graphitic ones, and the resulting 2D graphene flakes provide low friction and thus low wear. Typical applications:

  • Frictional machine parts (bearings, valves, piston rings)
  • Tools and molds for dry machining
  • Medical instruments thanks to biocompatibility
  • Ability to tailor the coating for frictional contact with or without lubricants

Decorative Coatings

  • Decorative and design parts (e.g. knives, watches)
  • High hardness of 3000 HV and excellent adhesion thanks to a unique metallic adhesion layer
  • Typical appearance: Attractive black color, glossy surface, high hardness (3000 HV), and strong adhesion provided by a unique metallic layer

Crystal Queen – Specialized Coating for Glass Molds

  • No glass adhesion
  • Hardness up to 2400 HV
  • Less lubrication, lower wear
  • Suitable for various mold types

AlCrN

Tools for dry and demanding conditions
Machining of hardened steels, cast iron, and stainless steels
Forming and stamping tools
High-speed milling and turning
Casting of aluminum, magnesium, and glass

ChromIQ – Modern Chrome Plating Alternative

Benefits::

  • Full replacement for electroplated chrome – no carcinogenic substances, no chromic acid
  • Perfect appearance – smooth, mirror-like glossy chrome finish
  • No post-polishing required – saving time and costs
  • Resistance to corrosion and abrasion – extending component lifetime
  • Low-temperature process – suitable even for precise and thin-walled parts
  • REACH compliant – safe for people and the environment
