About AdvaMat
AdvaMat is a Czech technology company specializing in the development and application of advanced PVD (Physical Vapor Deposition) and DLC (Diamond-Like Carbon) coatings. These ultra-thin layers extend the lifetime and performance of tools and components in industry, with some also serving decorative purposes.
Founded in 2014 as a spin-off from a research group at CTU in Prague, AdvaMat bridges cutting-edge scientific knowledge with real industrial needs. We deliver innovative solutions that extend tool life, increase manufacturing efficiency, and minimize environmental impact. Our key technologies include HiPIMS coatings and eco-friendly alternatives to chromium plating that comply with strict EU regulations.

Newstream: What do bullets and Chanel pendants have in common? Czech technology.
The story of Martin Daněk and the technology company AdvaMat is a prime example of innovation and entrepreneurial spirit in advanced materials. Martin Daněk studied materials engineering at CTU in Prague. After graduation, he focused on thin-film research, which inspired him to co-found a company dedicated to the development and application of advanced coatings.
In 2014, Professor Tomáš Polcar and his student Martin Daněk founded AdvaMat, which is still based at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering of CTU in Prague. The company specializes in functional and decorative PVD (Physical Vapor Deposition) coatings for a wide range of materials such as plastics, glass, and metals. AdvaMat provides standard metallic coatings as well as tailor-made solutions designed to meet specific client needs.

BusinessINFO: Innovation from CTU is changing the rules of the game in the glass industry
A new spin-off company, AdvaMat Coatings s.r.o., has been founded at CTU, focusing on innovative coating technologies with a primary emphasis on glass molds, where rising energy and material costs pose a major challenge.
Thanks to close cooperation with the CTU Technology Transfer and Fundraising Office and the business-oriented approach of the founders, Prof. Tomáš Polcar and Ing. Martin Daněk from the Faculty of Electrical Engineering, the process was completed quickly and smoothly.
Modern coatings help companies save time and costs
Imagine materials that last longer, reduce environmental impact, and open new possibilities in manufacturing. That’s exactly what the Czech high-tech company AdvaMat does—bridging science and industry while pushing the boundaries of technology. With roots at CTU in Prague, AdvaMat develops ultra-thin nanocoatings for industries ranging from automotive and healthcare to luxury design.
AdvaMat’s nanolayers protect electronics from scratches, extend the lifetime of industrial tools, reduce friction in machine parts, and add durability and hardness to knives. They give industry access to more efficient, sustainable, and resilient solutions.
